Empty chairs at empty tables

Ashford Farmers Market is as sad as Les Miserables just not half as enjoyable.

Yesterday (June 3rd) a handful of stalls huddled at the top end of the lower high street. Produce on offer ranged from preserves, hot food, cakes and local game to – a bric a brac stall run by a Dover charity. Not the greatest of farmers markets.

Fair play to the loyal stallholders who probably don’t make enough money to cover their fuel costs, but the town centre management need to promote it better and present an attraction worth attending.

The council website says ‘The Ashford Farmers’ Market is part of the council’s drive to increase footfall in the town centre, particularly on Sundays, and to support local businesses.’

On a positive note – the sun was shining and the stallholders were smiling !
