Planning application attracts over 600 objections

A proposed development dubbed ‘Big Burton’ has generated a lot of objections from local residents and critical reports from significant consultees, highlighting issues surrounding this major development on land between the Ashford to Canterbury railway line and Willesborough Road in Kennington.

At the time of writing over 600 objections have been received by Ashford Council planning department. There have also been 78 supporting letters received although a number of these were recently reported in local press to be attributed to employees of Quinn Estates, the applicant.

The application reference 19/00025/AS is for outline planning permission for 430 dwellings and full planning permission for a further 320 dwellings, 750 in total. However, it is understood that an adjoining parcel of land is also likely to be developed with a further 100 dwellings.

Part of the plan is to build a bowls club on the site, which the developers are promoting as a community gain for the area. This however has been criticised as merely being a land swap for the prime town centre bowls club and if the development gets the go ahead then the bowls club should become a community facility for the use of the wider public.

The closing date for comments is 3rd May. Full details and online comments can be made on the planning portal
