  • Advertising prizes

Hedley Grenfell-Banks posted an update 2 weeks, 2 days ago

Papa John says, ‘Love your pizza or we’ll deliver another one, absolutely free’
What on earth is the point of this? If I don’t like it, why would I want another one? This surely qualifies for the ‘Offer least likely to be taken up’ prize.
Other prizes I should like to award:

Most creative use of the word ‘only’ in an advertisement

  • Do you take your Christmas decorations down on Twelfth Night?

Admin posted an update 2 weeks, 3 days ago

If so – when is the Twelfth Night. Is it the 5th or 6th January? The Church of England, celebrates Twelfth Night on the 5th and refers to the night before Epiphany, the day when the nativity story tells us that the wise men visited the infant Jesus.

Alternatively if you take Christmas Day as the first of the twelve days, then Twelfth Night would…[Read more]

    • The clue is in the name. You can’t logically ask the question, which day is Twelfth Night. Twelfth night is a night, the night between the 5th and 6th of January. Once the night is over, Christmas is over and you take your decorations down.

  • Ashford Town Centre needs an identity or attraction

Admin posted an update 1 month ago

Having berated the lower high street general and farmers markets, I thought that it was about time that I made a suggestion for improvement.
On a recent long weekend in Vienna I visited Naschmarkt, one of the oldest markets in the city which attracts thousands of visitors every week.

In the local news this week:

Yet another pub will finally disappear from Ashford to be replaced by much needed housing; but is this the best design for the gateway to Ashford?

Ashford Council has purchased a second property to help those in need of a roof over their heads – we applaud this.

Ashford Council car parks are to be barrier controlled…[Read more]

  • Time for change?

Admin posted an update 1 month, 2 weeks ago

Sometimes in life and in business, when things do not work you have to move on. Perhaps that time has come for Ashford’s Lower High Street Markets.

From the time that Ashford Market (the proper one that attracted thousands) left the Cattle Market site, Ashford Council have tried unsuccessfully to bring life to the lower high street with a…[Read more]
