Kent Sport – a collaboration between KCC and Sport England – wants to give KUDOS to people and organisations in the county that are changing people’s lives through sport and physical activity.

Three shortlisted finalists will be selected from the entries to work with Kent Sport, and its media partners, to produce a short promotional film to be shown at the annual Everyday Active Conference at the Detling Showground in October.

Attendees at the conference will then have the chance to vote for an overall winner, which will win £500 to support the continuation or expansion of their project. The two runner-up projects will receive £250 each.

Wayne Smith, representing 2018 winning project Thera-Box, said: “Being last year’s KUDOS Award winner was fantastic. The award has given our project so much light and word has spread tremendously. The film that was created off the back of being a finalist is so powerful and has helped us gain funding grants and secure partners to deliver our programme even further.”

Thera-Box is a programme of specifically designed sessions combining boxing fitness exercises with structured speech and language therapy techniques. It was delivered over six weeks to pupils with additional learning needs, such as ADHD, at two Kent primary schools.

Teachers reported that the children who took part were calmer and more attentive in lessons and that some of the exercises from the sessions were successfully used to help with learning in the classroom. Feedback from the parents of participants also found that the sessions had a positive impact on sleep and eating patterns.
