  • Do you take your Christmas decorations down on Twelfth Night?

Admin posted an update 2 weeks, 3 days ago

If so – when is the Twelfth Night. Is it the 5th or 6th January? The Church of England, celebrates Twelfth Night on the 5th and refers to the night before Epiphany, the day when the nativity story tells us that the wise men visited the infant Jesus.

Alternatively if you take Christmas Day as the first of the twelve days, then Twelfth Night would be on January 5. However if you count from the day after Christmas Day, then Twelfth Night falls on January 6.

Do you believe that it is unlucky to leave Christmas decorations hanging after Twelfth Night? Will you be taking your decorations down on Friday or Saturday ? Or perhaps you have already consigned the tree to the tip and packed away the decorations – Bah Humbug.

    • The clue is in the name. You can’t logically ask the question, which day is Twelfth Night. Twelfth night is a night, the night between the 5th and 6th of January. Once the night is over, Christmas is over and you take your decorations down.
